Art Review by Jane Collins:

Whether Vera's forceful pen and ink graphics or her smooth plaster sculpture, each piece underscores a keen sense of form. In
'Wrecking Ball' she counterbalances thick and thin lines against concentric circles. An arcing black shape intersects the design and leads the focus to the small, dangling black and white sphere. Dissecting rectangular blocks cut into the circles, adding depth, while repeating triangles on the base add impact. The eye is lead both into the design and beyond, into the coming of action.
'Butterfly Wing' however, narrows the image, focusing on the graphic reinterpretation of the wings. The central diagonals suggest spreading wings, both polarized and moving through the perspective of semi-circular lines. Bean's white sculpture, by contrast, is smooth and gently rhythmical. In 'Bend' motion results from recurring shapes emphasized by the stark color and shadows. 'Cracked' employs diagonally sliced verticals and a feeling of layered planes.
Ink Work: I would very much like to believe everything is as simple as black and white, However... it's not. It's only black and white on the surface. If you take a closer look... things become just a little more complex and a little more complicated. "Just as all of us"
The ink process is a form of meditation and a form problem solving for me. I love the challenge of creating new designs and patterns. I find drawing very relaxing.

Sculptures: I consider them small scale ideas of grander ideas. I use my hands most of the time after cutting out a round about idea with a sculpting knife. Each one is sanded by my hand as well as with sand paper. I call them my "Energy Forms". The plaster sculptures started years ago with the blind or unsighted in mind. At one time in my life I was fortunate enough to have experienced a small portion of the world as they see it. The impact on me was tremendous. My sculptures are created with the thoughts of being touched or held.

Paintings: I enjoy creating on canvas... my work is of expressionism, abstract ideas, emotions, thoughts, dreams, journeys, love, anger, elation, puzzle solving, color explosions and fragments of thought.

Vera, An accomplished cyclist, turned artist, is the real creator behind "Emotions In Motion". Throughout Vera's cycling career, she had captured 8 State Championship Titles in women's cycling. She has transformed the emotion and motion of over ten years of world class bike racing into an array of creative expressions, from her "Sprocket Art" to her "Bike Chain Link Necklace".
Vera has also appeared live on the QVC Home Shopping Network displaying her unique Bike Chain-Link Necklace.
Emotions In Motion originated in 1987 when Vera began her cycling career as an amateur racer. Over the next five years, she accumulated enough wins to be rated a Cat 2 racer in the sport and was invited to the Olympic Trials in 1992. After winning 8 State Championship Titles and 2 National medals, Vera traveled to Russia as a member of the U.S. Masters National Team to participate in the Master's World Championship races. There, she captured an astonishing 5 Gold Medals and One Silver Medal.

Vera had retired from competition in 1999 and has since puts most of her energy into her creativity & artwork, and enjoying a new artistic way of life.
